First Sunday music
This Sunday, December 5, the combined adult choirs of Saint Philip’s will sing new Advent anthems by Gabriel Jackson, Cecilia McDowall, and Roxanna Panufnik, with two movements from James Whitbourn’s Son of God Mass. These works will require two fantastic local instruments to join us: Christina Vivona on the harp and Chris Herald on the alto saxophone.
This is a good opportunity to remind our patrons that First Sunday Music is supported entirely by donations. Saint Philip’s relies on these donations to produce new, larger-scale or accompanied music in the context of our liturgies. These musical celebrations remain a vital part of Saint Philip’s worship life, and a unique liturgical expression in the Tucson area.
There is still substantial need to cover costs of the planned spring First Sunday cycle, including a choral concert on May 22. Marvelous music is planned for the season, but your help is definitely needed. If you feel strongly about great music at Saint Philip’s, now is an excellent time to make a gift to First Sunday Music!
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Best,
—Justin Appel, Director of Music
