New Daily Bread regular

Richard Kuns will now become a regular contributor for the Daily Bread, starting Tuesday, August 10.

He and his wife Sue came to Saint Philip’s for the first time on Saint Philip’s Day in 1998. It was immediately clear that this would be their spiritual home. Since that day in May, Richard has served as a hospital visitor; trained as a facilitator for Walking the Mourner’s Path; facilitated several Myers-Briggs sessions with parishioners, staff members, and Tacheria; served as chair of discernment team; vestry member; and Sr. Warden for several years (retiring in 2011). He has served the Diocese since 2017 as a member of the Commission on Ministry (recently retired in May of this year). He was asked by Bishop Kirk Smith to share his spiritual journey as a speaker for the fall men’s retreat at Chapel Rock in 2016.

Richard found his calling at Saint Philip’s as a teacher and leader of Bible study groups. In 2005 he took over the Tuesday morning Bible study group and continued in that role until COVID shut down in-person meetings in March 2020.

He loves the Psalter and has written extensively on its content in his personal journals. Each Tuesday study would begin with a reading of a psalm and a discussion of its setting and the Hebrew text. Richard has said that if he were denied access to the Bible except for one book, he would choose the Psalter because the psalms are exquisite poetry and reveal every possible emotion of human existence.
