Pets bring joy and offer companionship. They can also help improve people’s physical conditions. For example, pets can reduce their owners’ anxiety and help them feel more secure…which often leads to improved sleep.

For most people, pets are part of the family. For those who are alone in the world, a pet can be the only family that exists.

Parishioner Susan Gamble, Deacons Susan Erickson, Anne Strong, and Brigid Waszczak, and Mtr Mary Trainor met recently to explore the intersection of pastoral care with pet ministry. Two ideas emerged about how Saint Philip’s might serve pets and their owners:

  • provide pet food for owners with financial needs

  • offer pastoral care for people who are dealing with an illness or the death of their animal companion

The group would like feedback from the parish. You can contact any member of the group directly or send a note to Mtr Mary at mary.trainor@st.philipstucson.org. Thank you!
