The Bishop’s chair
The Bishop’s chair is the seat reserved for the diocesan Bishop. It is an official and ceremonial seat that symbolizes the Bishop’s oversight and authority.
Saint Philip’s Sacred Arts Committee arranged for the chair to be restored, and it will be on display and used this weekend at the Diocesan Convention’s liturgy.
The restoration was done by Matilde Rubio and Tim Lewis, the world-renowned husband and wife team of Tohono Restoration.
It’s thought that the chair is a 19th century Mexican Baroque item. The exact date when Saint Philip’s acquired the chair is unknown but it’s thought to have arrived in the 1930s.
