Meet God at the Movies
Meet God at the Movies will discuss the 2008 documentary Pressure Cooker when it meets at 6:30pm on Monday, September 16.
Pressure Cooker captures a moment in time, as high school seniors—on the brink of adulthood—battle for achievement against a backdrop of uninspiring opportunities, with a determined and irreverent mentor leading the way.
Infamously blunt, Wilma Stephenson runs a "boot camp" teaching Culinary Arts at Frankford High, disciplining her students into capable chefs and responsible students. But behind her tough exterior is a teacher who cares passionately about getting the best out of her kids.
Saint Philip’s movie discussion group gathers every month via Zoom to explore a film and plumb it for theological content in the areas of creation (what is the world of the story like); what is broken/where is sin; is there a moment of turnaround, repentance; and where is redemption or the reign of God visible.
All are welcome to join the discussions—only once, sporadically, or on a regular basis—but registration is required. You can register by emailing Mtr Mary at mary.trainor@stphilipstucson.org.
Pressure Cooker can be watched on Amazon Prime, Peacock, YouTube TV, and Apple TV.
